DAMEN'S HEALTH
Damen has multiple autoimmune diseases. The main two are Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and Ulcerative Colitis.
In October 2007, Damen had a whole cadaveric liver transplant which temporarily cured his PSC. The autoimmune disease has returned. Basically his body recognizes the liver isn't his and is attacking it. He is currently in End Stage Liver Failure and needs a second life-saving liver transplant.
Many of his medical struggles also relate to his UC, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease similar to Crohn's. Recently the UC has caused enough damage in his colon (large intestine) to turn those cells pre-cancerous.
Currently, he is also fighting several serious infections, which are proving to be very difficult to treat with his weakened immune system.
Damen is unable to return to work in the foreseeable furture.
DAMEN'S FAMILY
We meet on April Fool's Day during college and were married in April 2010. We both love photography, family history, college football, House MD, and traveling.
Audrey was born March 2013. She had some of her own medical problems, and had surgery at two weeks old, but is now doing great. She is cheerful, cuddly, and curious. We adore her sweet little spirit and she always has a way of brightening our day.
THANK YOU
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone that helps, donates, purchases, and assists in any way for these fundraisers. We are very grateful for your love and support. Please know that you are helping to alleviate a huge burden.
